CU Men’s Basketball becomes the first collegiate program in the nation to use Respondology technology to mitigate toxicity.

The University of Colorado men’s basketball program, renowned for recruiting top talent, and Respondology, a Boulder-based company founded by digital veterans to eradicate online hate, abuse and spam, have announced the nation’s first collegiate partnership that will protect both players and fans from hate and abuse on social media.

This partnership comes in direct alignment with the Colorado Athletic Department’s vision and mission, by providing a world-class experience and developing the WHOLE student-athlete; a focus on Wellness, Health and Optimal Life Experience.

As the Colorado men’s basketball team continues to compete on a national stage, it increases the exposure to the toxicity that is prevalent on social media in the world of sports, particularly collegiate athletics. Respondology’s technology will assist Colorado head coach Tad Boyle and his Buffaloes in pushing aside those toxic aspects of social media.

“At CU Boulder, we take each athlete’s holistic collegiate experience very seriously, and this includes ensuring that they are in a safe environment, on the court, on campus, and online,” Boyle said. “Having watched a top-tier player being harassed online to the point of giving up his playing career, it became clear that the same protections we bring to players in our arenas needed to extend to our social media platforms. Respondology delivers exactly what was needed to make social media safe for our players and fans.”

With an established global presence, Respondology counts over 450 customers across sports, leading consumer brands, and entertainment. Respondology’s comment moderation platform provides users a single interface to automatically identify and remove malicious comments from multiple social platforms. The technology operates in 28 languages, removing hate speech, abusive language, spam, bots, and trolls from public view in less than a second.

“We are thrilled to welcome the CU men’s basketball team to the extensive roster of professional sports entities, including the Denver Broncos, using our solution,” said Erik Swain, co-founder and CEO of Respondology. “For too long, social media has been a toxic environment for young athletes, with no way to curb hatred and bullying. Respondology eliminates the abusive comments, enabling a positive space for engagement.”
